John
D. Shipman is a young Waco, Texas artist, who is proving to have great promise.
Mr. Shipman paints in an abstracted form whose style is reminiscent of early Jackson Pollock paintings. He has his own unique style of abstraction that conveys his life experiences and emotions. His use of form and color has produced exciting works. Symbolism
plays an important role in Mr. Shipman's work. It is this kind of symbolism and
its representation in his work that has this gallery recognizing him as an "Artist to Watch".
"These works are created with initial layers of solid
opaque color followed by a revising process to tone and develop them further, using successive layers of transparent paints
and line work to add structure. I seek to free the image that I feel is right
for that particular canvas rather than plan the work out completely ahead of time. It
is this process of free association leading to analytical corrections which allows the work to be purely expressionistic while
still adhering to basic principles of design. What I find the
art world of today is missing now is sense of soul and purpose. I find that in
this post Andy Warhol, postmodern world there is a great deal of art being made that seems only to rely on being clever. These paintings are an attempt to provide an alternative to this approach and help
to lead the way in achieving the original goals of modernism and art as a whole." - John D. Shipman, 2004.
We
are very proud to be at the beginning of such a powerful young artist. These
individuals come into view rarely, and to be part of this young artist's development is a great privilege for this gallery. We hope you enjoy his artwork as much as we do.
